Rooted – SEC’s Youth Fellowship
Rooted is for young people aged between 13 and 16 and takes place in one of the upper rooms of the church which has now become known as the YF Room on alternate Sunday evenings at from 7.45pm to around 9.15. It gets its name from the verse in Colossians 2:7, “Rooted and built up in Him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness.” The young people begin the evening with an ‘Ice Breaker’ and then study relevant topics over coffee and refreshments in the room which was specifically designed for them – complete with a coffee bar. Throughout the season guests would be invited along to discuss relevant social issues with the young people where we try to give them a forum for discussing issues in their lives and problems they may encounter.
SEC Youth – SEC’s Youth Club
SEC Youth is for young people aged 13-18. It’s on every Friday night (term time) between 7.30pm and 9.00pm. There are team games in the Sports Hall and activities aimed at encouraging and developing friendships. We have our own “X-Box”, table games, a tuck-shop and while the young folk dig into some local pizza, they listen to a short challenging gospel focussed message. Once a month they have ‘Event night’, sometimes an outing to play bowls and they have a ‘formal’ once a year.
Children’s Church
Our Family Service takes place from 11.00am to 12.15pm. We have a time of praise and worship followed by approximately half an hour of teaching. The topic can be found on the Events page of this website. Children are taken out to Children’s Church during the time of teaching and they have their own little time together in the upstairs Rooms. Older children remain in the service. After the time of teaching we have another piece by the Praise Group and then moved into a short time of communion where we remember the Lord Jesus Christ through the emblems of bread and wine in accordance with His command. The whole service finishes around 12.15pm.
Regular attendees as well as the children of visitors are made very welcome and the workers ensure that visiting children are encouraged to participate in the group activities and discussion.
Creche
There is a Creche for pre-school children during the time of teaching and also as required during other services. The creche is equipped with toys, books, puzzles and art and craft materials. The Creche is not supervised and parents are asked to accompany their child. The audio of the service in the Main Hall is relayed through to the creche so that adults can hear what is going on. The creche also has its own sink and toilet facilities. Visitors and ‘regulars’ alike are free to avail of these facilities.
Tree Tots
Silverbirch’s Tree Tots is one of the largest parent and toddler groups in Bangor and has plenty of room in the Sports Hall of the church to accommodate both the large numbers of children and the array of larger equipment such as the climbing frame, slide, crawling tunnel, ride-in cars and many table activities to keep the children occupied including a ‘craft time’ and a ‘singalong time’. The children are treated to juice, biscuits and other nice things during the morning while the parents chat over a welcome cup of coffee. There are no lower or upper age restrictions on babies and toddlers – all are welcome!
There are a number of ‘specials’ during the year including a visit from Santa at Christmas time and a trip to The Ark Open Farm.
Got pre-school children? Then why not join us on Monday mornings, 9.15am to 11.30am during term-time.
SEC Kids
SEC Kids is our weekly activity for all children of Primary School age. It’s in the Sports Hall and has a lot of fun activities and games with an epilogue at the end. The kids have a brilliant time – it’s just as well it’s held in the Sport Hall – all that’s required is plenty of energy! Parents – if you prefer to stay with your child you can – and there’s a cup of tea/coffee on us if you do decide to wait. SEC Kids is on every Friday Night during Term-time.
