Silverbirch Evangelical Church

Glorify the Lord with us

About that stained glass window

On approaching the main entrance of Silverbirch Evangelical Church, and indeed well before reaching the main gates, one cannot fail to notice the impressive circular stained glass window which dominates the gable wall of the front of the building.  The window is actually a graphical representation of part of a painting by renowned local artist David Long who is a member of the Silverbirch fellowship.  The painting measures 5′ square and currently hangs in the foyer of the Metropolitan Church, Whitewell, Belfast and is entitled “John’s Heavenly Vision.” It depicts the scene in the Book of Revelation where the Apostle John stands on the shore of the isle of Patmos gazing upwards as the heavens open and, as he records in chapter 5 and verse 11,

“Then I looked and heard the voice of many angels, numbering thousands upon thousands, and ten thousand times ten thousand. They encircled the throne and the living creatures and the elders. In a loud voice they were saying:

“Worthy is the Lamb, who was slain,
to receive power and wealth and wisdom and strength
and honor and glory and praise!”
